planlegging av begravelse

We help you with planning the funeral.

After a death, you as the next of kin will have a meeting with us at the agency to plan the funeral.

The conversation and planning usually lasts 1-2 hours, and it may be good to have gotten some sleep before the meeting.

You may also want to prepare a little about what type of ceremony you want, the time and place for the ceremony, and perhaps give some thought to what should be included in the obituary and any musical accompaniment.

The conversation can either take place at one of our offices or at home, and as an agency, we will ensure that all the practical and formal matters regarding the funeral are taken care of in a good manner so that you can have complete peace of mind in the preparations.

Rights, costs and support at funeral

The right to arrange for the funeral

The person who is closest to the deceased is the one who has the right to decide about the funeral, including what kind of ceremony it should be and where they will be buried. The order of closest relatives is stated in the Funeral Act, section 9. It is both natural and common for several members of the immediate family to cooperate on this, and if the deceased has expressed wishes regarding the funeral, this should be included as well.

Place and time

The funeral must be held no later than 10 working days after the death and can take place either in a church, a chapel, or in a ceremony room open to all faiths. As an agency, we help with reserving a place and time and possibly a ceremony director. Everyone has the right to a burial site in the municipality in which they are registered, but if you want a burial site in another municipality, you can apply for permission to do so, and a fee is usually required to cover the costs.

How much does a funeral cost?

The price of a funeral varies depending on the various choices you make, such as flowers, a soloist, the number of announcements, and whether you want to have a memorial service after the funeral. On our homepage, you can find a price list where you can see all the fixed costs for a funeral, but please call us if you have any questions.

Funeral allowance from NAV

Everyone in Norway has the right to a dignified funeral. If there is little or no money in the estate, NAV will help provide financial support for the funeral, and we can help you apply for this. NAV also provides financial support if the transport from the place of death to the grave is longer than 20 km.
